Early Years

GO-East supports and monitors the progress of all 10 councils and their partnerships in early years and childcare. This work focuses on the breadth of the early years and childcare service, including:
• The Children’s Information Service.
• The Transformation Fund, recruitment and workforce development issues.
• Free early education places and the 3 and 4 year old offer
• Extended school and extended services provision.
• Preparation for the implementation of the Childcare Act.

One of the main focuses of GO’s work is the support, challenge and monitoring of local authorities’ and other agencies’ progress in improving outcomes for children under and their families. This covers the delivery of Sure Start Children’s Centres, Extended Schools and sufficient childcare. GOs also work with partners throughout the region to help put into practice the aims of the Childcare Act.

In order to ensure that adequate support monitoring and a challenge is provided to each of the 10 local authorities in the region across the broad early years agenda, the regional team works closely with a range of consortium and contractors who are contracted to provide support to Local Authorities, including the Training Development Agency, “together for children”, 4Children and ContinYou.
