Education and Skills

Government Office for the East of England contributes to the achievement of Department for Children, Schools and Families targets by working with local organisations across the East of England to ensure that participation and educational attainment are central to local community strategies and plans.

Government Offices have an important role in helping the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) deliver its education strategy for the next five years and beyond. It focuses on giving children an excellent start in education, enabling young people to equip themselves with life and work skills, and encouraging adults to achieve their full potential through learning.

The Children and Young People agenda forms a significant proportion of the work that the Government Office undertakes on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF). However, there are a number of other policy areas that are essential either in complementing aspects of our Children and Young People activities or in building on them for the benefit of the wider community and the region as a whole.

These aspects form the basis of our activities on Children, Schools and Families where our focus is partly around providing support and challenge to partners at a strategic level; partly around working in partnership with key regional stakeholders, forums, networks and communities to develop delivery strategies and approaches; and partly [where initiatives remain directly funded by Government] monitoring and managing contracted delivery of programmes and initiatives.

The key elements of our Children, Schools and Families work are:

  • Schools
  • 14-19 Education
  • Further Education
  • Higher Education
  • Skills
