Respect:

The Respect Programme is a cross governmental and wide ranging response to anti-social behaviour and it's causes. Respect is a key priority for central government and for local communities who regulary identity respect issues as the most important in their area. The Respect Action Plan launched in January 2006 builds on the drive to tackle anti-social behaviour. It seeks to deepen our approach by tackling the underlying causes of anti-social behaviour, intervening early where problems occur and broadening efforts to address other areas of poor behaviour.

In January 2007, 40 Respect Action Areas were announced. The Respect Areas have earned the right to be exemplars of the Respect programme by their strong track record in tackling anti-social behaviour, and a willingness and capacity to do more.

The Respect Action Areas in the East of England are:

  • Harlow
  • Ipswich
  • Norwich
  • Southend-on-Sea

Further information on the Respect Agenda can be found on the Respect website. A link for this can be found at the bottom of the page.

Training:

Are you involved in Managing Anti-Social Behaviour?

Anglia Ruskin University runs three specialist courses from undergraduate to Master’s level in this area.  The courses are all part-time and take place at the Cambridge Campus.  Attendance is for 18 Fridays over a full academic year. The aim of the courses is to provide students with the skills and knowledge to improve the quality of their professional practice.  Teaching is provided by highly qualified professionals currently practising in the area and by academic specialists in ASB and neighbourhood management. The courses are challenging and innovative, but grounded in the reality of day-to-day work in the area of anti-social behaviour.  Assessment is based on reflection of practical experiences in the workplace.  There are no traditional examinations.

Anglia Ruskin University is recognised as a national leader in the study and management of anti-social behaviour.  The courses were first developed at the request of GO-East, Cambridge City Council and Cambridgeshire Constabulary to raise the standards of practice in the area.  The courses are all recognised by the Chartered Institute of Housing.
