Research and Analysis

The Government Office for the East of England (GOE) aims to use research and analysis to inform their crime reduction activities in the region.

The Home Office provides research and analytical support for community safety work in Government Offices and the Welsh Assembly Government. This work support the efforts of Government Office and the Welsh Assembly teams to improve the performance of local partnerships and spread good practice. More information on the national picture

The main areas for research and analytical support in the East of England are:

1)       Supporting Performance Management against Home Office Public Service Agreements (PSA) 1 (to reduce crime) and 4 (to reduce the harm caused by illegal drugs) in the region

For example, providing data and analysis to enable performance to be monitored and decisions to be made about where to offer additional support in the region.

2)       Providing further research into and analysis of regional crime patterns and possible local solutions

This includes examining patterns of particular types of crime in the region to inform the development of appropriate crime reduction activities.

3)       Promoting effective use of analysis and evidence in the East of England

For example enhancing and developing local analytical capacity in the region, notably by developing and supporting the Eastern Region Research Forum, a network for researchers and analysts in the region to share good practice.

Impact of the Licensing Act 2003

The DCMS and Home Office have published the national evaluations of the impact of the Licensing Act on levels of crime and disorder. Alongside these the HO has also published a research report on the early experiences of the Act in the East and Yorkshire and Humber regions. Copies of the HO reports can be downloaded from here - http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/horrpubs.html and the DCMS evaluation is available on the DCMS website at http://www.culture.gov.uk/.
