Regional Cultural Consortiums

Living East was created by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in 1999 as the Cultural Consortium for the East of England region.

A Regional Cultural Consortium (RCC) has been established in each of the English regions outside London. The London Cultural Consortium is not one of the DCMS Regional Cultural Consortiums that are being replaced in other English regions. More information on the national picture

Government Office for the East of England works in collaboration with Living East on joint projects addressing regional priorities. In common with the other Regional Cultural Consortia, it is charged:

  • to champion the whole spectrum of cultural and creative interests in the region, including tourism and sport
  • to forge links across this spectrum

To create a common vision expressed in a cultural strategy for the region.

Living East’s priorities are:

  • strategic cultural planning for the region
  • research and intelligence gathering
  • promoting the region’s culture
  • strategic social and regeneration projects
