The European Union supports poorer regions of Member States by providing funds to help them regenerate their economies and create new jobs. The four most important funding programmes are known collectively as ‘Structural Funds’.

European Structural Funds in the East of England
The main programmes operating in the region are the Objective 2 and Objective 3 programmes. In addition there are a number of Community Initiatives – Urban II, LEADER+, INTERREG, Innovative Actions, England Rural Development Programme (ERDP), EQUAL.
Working in Partnership
The development, implementation and management of European Structural Funds in the East of England operate with the full involvement of key stakeholders and regional partners. The East of England Structural Funds Strategy Group (SFSG) is the key regional partnership forum.
Equality
The SFSG Equality Advisory Group (EAG) is responsible for advising on and monitoring the development and implementation of equality of opportunity through Structrural Funds Programmes in the East of England Region with a particular emphasis on gender mainstreaming.
Environmental Sustainability
The SFSG Environmental Sustainability Advisory Group (ESAG) is responsible for advising on and monitoring the development and implementation of Environmental Sustainability through Structural Fund Programmes in the East of England Region.
Events and Seminars
The 2006 Celebrate Awards ceremony was held on 5 October at the Ely Maltings. The Celebrate Awards are an opportunity to celebrate some of the fantastic achievements which have been made possible thanks, in part, to European funding. Further details are available on the 'News and Publicity' page.
