Transport
The Government Office for the East of England facilitates the delivery of the Department for Transport’s White Paper, “The Future of Transport” published in 2004. This updates the Transport Ten Year Plan which laid the foundations for change through investment. We advise local authorities on the production and delivery of their Local Transport Plans, and with other regional institutions, such as the Regional Assembly and the Regional Development Agency, we help support the future development of the region.
Transport impacts on everyone's lives. Improving the transport system and its operation is a critical element in the Government’s economic, social and environmental agenda. Better access to jobs and services, particularly for those most in need, is a priority shared between local and central government, and a core aspect of Government Office work.

We work with local and regional organisations such as the East of England Regional Assembly (EERA) and the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) to promote an efficient and integrated transport system. We work with other partners on cycling, walking, promoting green travel plans for business, the Safe Routes to School initiative, freight issues, airports, rail services and buses.
